Demopolis is served by Bryan W. Whitfield Memorial Hospital, as well as nearby
Hale County Hospital, Greene County Hospital and Nursing Home and the Hill
Hospital of Sumter County.
Local elementary schools include the Jones
Elementary School and Westside Elementary. High schools and middle schools
include Demopolis Middle School, Demopolis High School, Demopolis Academy, John
Essex High School and Anns Learning Center.
Higher
education is provided by Shelton State Community College, the
University of Alabama, Meridian Community College, University of
Montevallo, Mississippi University For Women, Mississippi State
University and the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
Originally an area devoted to agriculture,
Demopolis now has many industries such as Borden Chemical Co., Cemex Cement,
Gulf States Paper Corp., New Era Cap Company, and Foster Farms.
There are
also a number of other industries and large employers. |
